The Qs and As
What do I wear/bring?
Any gym, dance, yoga, general exercise clothing you feel comfy in and can move freely in. Our pole classes are in socks or barefoot, and please wear socks for aerial arts. Leggings are totally cool for your first pole sesh, just make sure you can roll them above the knee. Please ensure you wear full length or 3/4 bottoms for aerial arts and a long sleeved top for aerial sling. For yoga, we have all the necessary equipment like mats, blocks and straps but please feel free to bring your own if you would prefer. Bring water and then you’re good to go!
Can I get changed?
Yes, there is a toilet at Maya that you can get changed in.
Can I park at the studio?
We don’t have space to park directly outside the studio, however there is lots of on street parking nearby.
How do I find the studio?
Details of how to find us can be found here: FIND US!
What happens in class and when I get to the studio?
Your teacher will know it’s your first class and come over, introduce themselves and have a lil chat. We’ll start with a group warm-up, followed by a few conditioning exercises. You’ll then be guided through the basics—like spinning around the pole or getting into a hoop or sling before making beautiful shapes and trying out short sequences. We’ll finish with a group cool-down, leaving you to enjoy that post-class glow all the way home. Afterwards, we’ll follow up via email on what happens next.
How challenging is the session?
It’s completely normal to feel a bit sore a day or two after your first class, it’s a bigger workout than it feels in the moment! You might also notice some light bruising or tender hands from gripping the pole, hoop, or sling. Don’t worry—this is all part of the process, and as your body adjusts, it’ll feel much easier over time.
Is there an age limit?
Over 18s for our evening classes, and we run age specific classes for children and teens. We have polers and aerialists in their 50s and 60s who started while in their 50s and 60s.
Do you do courses?
We do! Twice annually, in January and September, we host our signature 12 week beginner course, The Maya Method! At all other times of year, just hit the button below to start in a beginner drop in sesh!
No experience or upper body strength? No problem!
This is exactly where you should begin. We mean it—NO previous experience or strength is needed. Our pole and aerial classes aren’t about having strength or skills already—they’re designed to help you build them!
